What if you could completely transform the way you think about time and accountability with just one small change in language?

During  a networking call, I had the opportunity to connect with Joshua Peskay from RoundTable Technology, and he dropped an insight that BLEW MY MIND. It was such a powerful perspective shift that I knew I had to share it with all of you.

Joshua shared that he forbids anyone from saying, “I didn’t have time to…” Instead, he asks them to reframe their statement as:

👉 “I chose to do…”

🤯 Think About the Shift This Creates

When we say, “I didn’t have time,” it makes time sound like some external force—something outside of our control that dictates what we can and can’t do. It’s easy to feel powerless when we frame things that way.

But when we say, “I chose to do…” we own our decisions. We acknowledge that how we spend our time isn’t random—it’s a direct reflection of our priorities.

💡 Example: Instead of saying, “I didn’t have time to work out today,” try saying, “I chose to prioritize work calls over working out.” See the difference?

It’s not about adding guilt or pressure—it’s about empowering ourselves to recognize that we are in control.

🚀 Why This Matters for Leaders & Business Owners

As business owners and leaders, we constantly juggle priorities. There’s always something pulling our attention in different directions. But when we take ownership of our time, we become more intentional with our choices.

This small shift in language forces us to:

Recognize what we’re prioritizing (whether we realize it or not).
Be more mindful of how we allocate energy and focus.
Stop playing the victim to “not enough time” and take control of our actions.

And let’s be real—how often do we let ourselves off the hook by blaming time? “I didn’t have time to follow up with that client.” “I didn’t have time to work on my business strategy.” But when we reframe it to say, “I chose not to prioritize it today,” it changes the game.

💥 A Challenge for You (And My Clients—Yes, This Means You Too! 😁)

Moving forward, I’m adopting this mindset—and I’m challenging you to do the same.

For the next week, every time you catch yourself saying, “I didn’t have time,” reframe it as “I chose to…” See how it shifts your awareness of what you’re prioritizing.

🔹 What does it feel like to take ownership of your time?
🔹 What insights do you gain about your choices?
🔹 What changes will you make after noticing these patterns?

Thank you, Joshua Peskay, for this brilliant insight. I’d love to hear from all of you—how does this small shift in language make you feel? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
